The month of October delivered some eye-popping real estate sales in the nation’s capital. It begins with Unit #PH2E at the Ritz-Carlton Georgetown. The two-story penthouse with 6,577 square feet of living space, plus three private terraces combining for another 2,800 sq. ft., went under contract in just two days. The offer was at the full list price of $7,850,000, closing the day after the offer was accepted. Somebody really wanted this city home in the sky, with its four bedrooms, four full baths, two half-baths, gorgeous hardwood floors and a rooftop deck. Next up is another impressive Georgetown residence, Unit #3W at 1055 High. Not only did the three-bedroom, 3.5-bath apartment take second place in the highest priced sweepstakes at $4.4 million, it also captured the highest price per square foot at $1,243.64. With sunny exposures on three sides, the residence boasts an open Boffi kitchen, a den with fireplace, and a large private terrace.

Third place goes to Unit #23 at the highly modern Westlight building in the West End neighborhood. The three-bedroom, three-bath designer model with 3,021 square feet of space has a library, pale oak floors, and a super chic open kitchen with panelized appliances set into stark white floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. The condo sold at its full asking price of $3,615,000. Next up is Unit #117 at Shoreham West in Woodley Park. The two-bedroom, 2.5-bath co-op with a den was designed by Winthrop Faulkner. The mid-century modern residence sold for $1,995,000.

Fifth place goes to Unit #PH19 at VIO at The Wharf. The two-level penthouse with three bedrooms and two baths is a true showcase residence. The main living quarters plus a gourmet kitchen are at the first level, with a stylish staircase leading up to a loft with wet bar and a 600 square foot private terrace. The waterfront pad with 1,530 sq. ft. of interior space sold for $1,775,000; it also captured the fourth-highest price per square foot at $1,160.13. Rounding out this list is Unit #5BW at St. Nicholas in Kalorama. This grand old Beaux Arts building with its charm and luxury dates back to 1917. The three-bedroom unit with 2.5 baths sold at full price for $1,649,500, and is a great example of old world style merging with new modern upgrades.
