The Columbia has quite a story to tell. The Italianate-style complex was constructed in 1916 as the new West End site of the Columbia Hospital for Women. The hospital had previously been in Thomas Circle since 1866. Most recently, the historic landmark was redeveloped as 225 luxury condominiums along with a ground floor Trader Joe’s!
New to the market in late April is Unit #602. This spacious corner unit with southern exposure has 2-bedrooms, 2-baths and 1,490 square feet of living space. Wide-plank hardwood floors, a master suite, a gourmet kitchen with Viking stainless steel appliances and a large balcony are all part of the package, priced at $1,350,000.
Unit #324 was also listed in April. The 1-bedroom, 1-bath flat with 816 square feet of interior space is offered at $699,000. Among the features in this unit are blonde hardwood floors, 11-foot ceilings and an open kitchen with pendant lighting and Viking and Sub-Zero appliances.
Unit #906 has a new price cut from $1,365,000 down to $1,325,000. The duplex penthouse has nearly 1,500 square feet of living space, with hardwood floors, owner’s suite featuring twin sink marble vanity, an open contemporary kitchen, floating spiral stairs, upstairs family room and private roof terrace.
Also still available is Unit #335 with 1-bedroom, 1-bath, a den and 850 square feet of space. Originally priced at $669,900, this apartment is now offered at $649,000 and includes wood floors, a space-saving kitchen with granite wraparound counters, plus sliders in the bedroom leading to a balcony.
Unit #207 was listed for sale and also closed in April! The $1,149,900 asking price was bumped up to $1,150,000 for good measure. With 3-bedrooms, 2-baths and 1,358 square feet of livable space, this sunny corner apartment has gorgeous hardwood floors throughout, a snazzy open kitchen, luxurious marble spa baths, plantation shutters, walk-in closets and recently installed front-loading GE washer and dryer.
Also closing in April was Unit #306 with 2-bedrooms, 2-baths, Cherry EcoTimber hardwood floors and 1,158 square feet of space. The open gourmet kitchen with shaker-style Poggenpohl cabinets matches the reddish hues, while a balcony offers views of Pennsylvania Avenue. Listed at $989,000, the condo closed for $981,000.
Also worth noting, Unit #324 has been temporarily placed on hold. The 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment with 816 square feet of space was priced at $699,000 and is in an original wing of the building. Blonde floors, deep-set windows, an open kitchen and balcony are among the features.
The Columbia redevelopment process included two new wings to augment the existing renovated structure. In addition to the on-site Trader Joe’s market, residents enjoy a fitness center, rooftop pool, billiards room, front desk and concierge, and expansive grassy lawns. The neighborhood itself is also a huge plus, with the new West End Library, popular shops and restaurants, the Landmark Theatres West End, and more.
