The Columbia | Market Pulse | June 2019

Once known as the historic Columbia Hospital for Women (built 1916), The Columbia now continues as a beautifully restored and renovated condominium complex with 225 luxury residences and a ground floor Trader Joe’s. Originally designed by renowned DC architect Nathan C. Wyeth, the Italianate Renaissance central building and its V-shaped wings are fronted by a circular brick drive and framed by lush landscaping. The Columbia is located at 2425 L Street NW in Washington’s popular West End neighborhood.

June was a great month for new opportunities at The Columbia. It starts with Unit #432 with 2-bedrooms, 2-baths and 1,250 square feet of living space. Priced at $1,125,000, this attractive apartment has a roomy feel, hardwood floors in the living areas and carpets in the bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen that’s open to the main living space, sliders to the balcony and plenty of closet space.

Unit #342 also came to market in June and is listed at $974,900. With 2-beds, 2-baths and 1,184 interior square feet, this super charming flat has light-toned hardwoods throughout and an open kitchen with dark granite counters, stainless steel appliances and cabinets that match the floors. French doors lead to the balcony, and the master and second bedrooms each have lovely architectural details.

New listings continue with Unit #332 offering 2-bedrooms, 2-baths and 1,256 square feet of space. Competitively priced at $879,000, this handsome apartment has intriguing room shapes, light hardwoods, a matching open contemporary kitchen, carpeted bedrooms, sliders to the balcony, newly restored marble bathrooms and plenty of closet space.

Unit #422 listed in June for $819,000 and has already dropped to $799,000! The 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo with 1,001 square feet plus a balcony is in the original main building. There’s loads of appeal with rich hardwood floors, a master bedroom on the main level and steps up to a second loft bedroom. Deep-set windows, high ceilings and double-sink marble vanities are among the charming features.

Also new in June is Unit #335, a roomy 1-bedroom, 1-bath plus den with 850 square feet of space. Competitively priced at $639,900, this appealing flat has blonde hardwoods throughout, dark granite counters, blonde cabinets, stainless steel appliances, marble bath, stacked washer/dryer and a balcony off the bedroom.

June was an active month for offers! It starts with Unit #602, a spacious corner residence with southern exposure, 2-bedrooms, 2-baths and 1,490 square feet of living space. Wide-plank hardwood floors, a master suite, a gourmet kitchen with Viking stainless steel appliances and a large balcony are all part of the package. The list price is $1,350,000 with a closing due in July.

Unit #936 also went under contract in June. This 2-bedroom, 2-bath penthouse duplex with 1,779 square feet of living space had been listed as a short sale opportunity in May and was on the market for just four days before being scooped up. Priced at $1,299,000, the condo has spiral iron stairs leading to a large bonus room with wet bar and sliders to a private roof deck.

Also pending is Unit #509. The 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment with 785 square feet of space has light hardwood floors throughout, a cute open kitchen with dark granite counters and stainless steel appliances, a nifty desk cubby and a balcony off the bedroom. The list price was just $599,000.

There were no closings in June, but two are scheduled for July—Units 509 and 602.

Residents at The Columbia enjoy 24/7 front desk and concierge, three fully-furnishes suites for guests, a rooftop swimming pool and deck, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a billiards room, club room, dry cleaners, and of course, the Trader Joe’s.
