Jeff’s 6 Favorite Things – New Year’s Resolution Edition

Here are a few of the commitments I've made to myself in the New Year. I hope at least one of these inspires you to do the same. Wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2019!

Elysium Basis

One night in a penthouse in San Diego, I had the most interesting conversation with a biophysicist, discussing the aging process, and how some amazingly brilliant scientists (Nobel Prize Winners) have developed chemical compounds that slow the aging process by allowing our DNA strands to replicate more fully. Go figure. It’s a grand experiment I’ve been on for over a year now. When I celebrate my 150th birthday I’ll tell you how well this works. I used to be a gym rat, big muscles, low body fat, and boy did I feel good in a bathing suit on South Beach. My body was my calling card.  Well that was “used to be” and those days seemed in my rear view mirror as I told myself “I don’t look that bad.” But, I knew I did. With three young kids that require a lot of stamina, and a desire to live a VERY long time to watch their lives unfold, I got back to the gym. Instead of thinking about it any longer, I called AC Cowie, a highly sought after trainer in DC, booked an appointment, and that’s all it took. I’m back. After just 3 months I am in MUCH better shape, my pants are falling off my waist, and I can easily keep up with my kids, the greatest joy in life. Wherever you go, just make the call and go. If you want to train with AC, call him on his cell at 202-549-4945.  It will be the best call you’ve made all year.

Slowing down, meditating, and letting my quiet inspiration speak to me are not things I do naturally. But, after hearing about mediation again and again from people I admire and trust and the books and podcasts I consume, I finally made a decision to try it, knowing I needed a guide. One friend recommended Headspace. I downloaded the app and started. What I like it that it takes away the mystery and guess work, the meditations can be as fast as 10 minutes. Whew! I like the little videos they have created, the voice of the narrator, and the way I can track the number of minutes I’ve mediated and my “run streak.” Check in with me in December to see how well this works and check out Headspace here.

Becoming a father has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Yet, I’m a busy professional with lots of demands on my time, I need help, inspiration and reminders to become and stay the father I want to be. WonderDads helps me do that with reminders, inspiration, and a healthy dose of reality that our time with our kids is fleeting, and this is the time to make the most of it. I’m grateful I found this service, and I’m working to build memories of a lifetime, mine and theirs. Visit WonderDads here.

I listen all the time, except to my husband but that’s another story. To what you may ask? YouTube and a few select podcasts. I used to think of it as cat videos and dash cams catching the unthinkable on video. But it is SO much more. There are incredible talks by Joe Dispenza, Ted Talks, Impact Theory, Abraham Hicks, Wayne Dyer, Brian Tracy, Jim Rohn and Simon Sinek to name a few. AND, you can gift yourself with commercial free listening by subscribing to YouTube Red which also allows you to turn off your phone’s screen while still listening to the video. It’s the best $13 I spend every month. Check out YouTube Here and subscribe!

OK, truth be told, I’ve done all of the above, and this is the only one that will be added to my repertoire in this new year. I’m lucky that my husband makes me healthy food for breakfast and dinner, it’s lunch where I get myself in trouble. So, I’m going to subscribe to Freshly to get really great food for lunch and so I can power through my work day without having to leave the office to grab usually unhealthy food. I’m looking forward to my first round, and plan to gift my team with this service as well. I’ll let you know how it goes and for you who already get Freshly, send me your favorites!
