The Columbia | Market Pulse | August 2021

The Columbia Residences has a storied history. The former Columbia Hospital for Women and Lying-in Asylum dates back to 1866 in Thomas Circle, moving to the West End in 1870 before being rebuilt five years later on a much larger scale. The health care facility was initially dedicated to serving female relatives of Civil War soldiers who would travel to Washington seeking news of their missing loved ones. The renowned hospital ultimately closed its doors in 2006, reopening in 2010 as upscale condos with an onsite Trader Joe’s.

New to the market in August is Unit #416 with a loft bedroom, one bath and 764 square feet of living space. Priced at $630,000, the charming residence has 10-foot ceilings, beautiful hardwood floors and tall windows. The living area includes an open kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances. There’s a private balcony that’s great for morning coffee, and the aforementioned loft bedroom adds loads of extra appeal.
