The Columbia | Market Pulse | April 2021

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more unique or more appealing condo community than The Columbia Residences. The former Columbia Hospital for Women was founded in 1866 in Thomas Circle, before moving to its current West End location in 1870. It was rebuilt five years later with a stunning Italianate design from Nathan C. Wyeth. Initially serving wives and widows of Civil War soldiers, the hospital ultimately closed its doors in 2002 and was redeveloped as luxury condominiums.

New to the market in April is Unit #230. Listed at $930,000, the two-bedroom, two-bath residence has 1,254 square feet of living space, 11-foot ceilings and a walk-out patio with lush green lawns. The layout is open and sunny, with hardwood floors throughout the living areas and kitchen, and cream carpets in the bedrooms. The master bedroom has a large walk-in closet and a large en-suite bath with marble twin-sink vanity.

Unit #424 listed in April with a $675,000 price tag. The one-bedroom, one bath apartment with 822 square feet of space has lots of improvements, with ashy-gray hardwood floors, a gourmet kitchen with dark granite counters and a superb frameless shower in the bath. A large private balcony, a washer/dryer combo, one parking space and a storage unit add to the appeal.

The other condo that is now pending with contingencies is Unit #520. The one-bedroom, one-bath residence has a bonus loft den and 810 square feet of living space. Priced at $655,000, the upper-level apartment in one of the original historic buildings is loaded with architectural charm. A loft den, open gourmet kitchen, high ceilings, sliding bedroom door and a marble bath add to the appeal.

Unit #240 has been withdrawn. The three-bedroom, 2.5-bath ground floor apartment with nearly 2,000 square feet of living space, had been reduced to $1,575,000 before being taken off the market at the very end of April. We will keep tabs on this handsome residence.
