The Columbia | Market Pulse | July 2019

The Columbia Residences has had a fascinating history. The first Columbia Hospital for Women was located in Thomas Circle, opening in 1866 and dedicated to serving wives and widows of Civil War soldiers. The hospital moved to its current West End location a decade later and was rebuilt in 1916. The facility with its ornate Italianate design, V-shaped wings and golden tapestry brick remained open until 2002, after which it was restored, renovated and expanded to a superb residential community with a ground floor Trader Joe’s!
