The Columbia | Market Pulse | October 2021

You’ll rarely find a condominium community as unique, historic or amenity-rich as The Columbia Residences. The origins lie in Thomas Circle, with the first Columbia Hospital for Women opening its doors in 1866. It moved to its present West End location in 1870 and was rebuilt on a grander scale in 1916. An innovator in prenatal care, the lauded healthcare facility remained open until 2002, and was converted to upscale condos in 2010. Combining exquisite architecture with luxury interiors and an on-site Trader Joe’s, The Columbia has become one of DC’s most popular places to live.

New to the market in October is Unit #501, offered at $949,999. The two-bedroom, two-bath condo has 1,200 square feet of living space with updates and fresh paint. Gorgeous wide-plank floors run throughout the residence. Features include maple Poggenpohl cabinets, Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, marble baths, an in-unit washer and dryer, a giant walk-in closet with organizers and a large private balcony.

Unit #317 listed in September and remains available for $599,000. Featuring a loft bedroom and one bath, the attractive 850 square foot residence offers high ceilings, a front foyer and a large and open living, cooking and dining space. Hardwood floors are in the living areas with carpet in the loft. A washer and dryer combo tuck neatly into a closet inside the bathroom with its granite counters and frameless shower.

With a loft bedroom, one bath and 822 square feet of interior space, Unit #424 is listed at $675,000. Ash-gray hardwood floors are in the living areas. An open gourmet kitchen is set into a single wall, with starburst lights over the charcoal granite island. The bedroom has an entire wall of built-ins. The condo also features a balcony and a high-end washer/dryer stack.

Unit #324 came to market in September and was reduced in price that same month, to $648,900. The airy apartment with a loft bedroom and one bath has blonde hardwood strip floors throughout. The open gourmet kitchen with its stainless steel appliances is set nicely into a single wall, with pendant lighting over the granite island. There’s also a cute balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Unit #234 has one bedroom, an open den that makes a great work-from-home space, and one bath. The 812 square foot apartment with its wide-plank floors is competitively priced at $590,000. The open chef-inspired kitchen features granite counters, Poggenpohl cabinetry and upscale stainless steel appliances, including a Viking gas range. The sellers are the original owners.

Unit #331 was relisted in October and quickly received an offer, going into Active under Contract status, meaning it’s pending with contingencies. Listed at $1,050,000, the 1,380 square foot floorplan features a grand foyer, two bedrooms, two baths and a lovely treetop terrace. An open gourmet kitchen is set into the corner, with granite counters, Viking appliances and a breakfast island.

Unit #808 came to market in September and is now pending. Listed at $1,249,900, this impressive two-bedroom, two-bath corner penthouse has 1,175 square feet of living space along with a 700+ sq. ft. private rooftop deck. Lovely hardwood floors, an open chef’s kitchen, giant windows, a huge living room and an adjacent dining room add to the appeal.

There was one closing in October. Unit #437 with two bedrooms and two baths, had listed for $955,000 in September and went under contract just two weeks later. The final sales price for the 1,194 square foot residence was $950,000. Features include high ceilings, hardwood floors, marble baths, an open gourmet kitchen, a balcony and an in-unit washer and dryer.

Unit #233 listed in September for $549,999 but has since expired. The 805 square foot apartment with one bedroom, one bath and a large open den, has beautiful bamboo hardwood floors are in the living areas. A stunning gourmet kitchen has Viking and Sub-Zero appliances. We’ll keep an eye on this one to see if it comes back onto the market.

Residents at The Columbia enjoy plenty of perks, not the least of which is the previously mentioned on-site Trader Joe’s market. There’s also a staffed front desk and concierge with dedicated and friendly service, as well as a rooftop swimming pool and lounge, a fitness center, billiards and club rooms, and three furnished guest suites for visitors.
